Every year, we have our annual trip abroad around February or March. Last years, the destination was London, where we participated in the Hyde Park Relays. This year however, we changed the destination and visited Berlin! We took the train to Berlin on an early Thursday morning, and arrived there around 15:00. After some relaxation, we visited a traditional 'Bierlokal' for pints, schnitzels and sauerkraut! The Thursday evening stood in the light of the traditional hazing of some Roadrunners, and we went clubbing late night.
Getting up early was a real challenge on Friday morning, but we stood up quite early and went for a traditional sightseeing during the day. Everything that Berlin has to offer has been visited: The Brandenburger Tor, the Reichstag, the Fernsehnturm and the Berliner Dom. During the Friday night, we stayed in the hostel, because we had to get up around 7.30 to participate in the Parkrun Berlin! While the thermometers stated it was -6 degrees, we put on our running leggings
and shirts for a 5km run through one of the parks in Berlin. Though we had some drinks the night before, for most of us this run went really well, despite the big, challenging hill halfway the parcours.
Because the run this Saturday was early in the morning, we had more than enough time to give the Berliner 'attractions' one more look. We visited among others the East Side Gallery and the Holocaust Monument, and then went to an Italian restaurant (what else when you're in Berlin, right?). During our last night, we wanted to go out to a club, but we had so much fun in the hostel that we decided to stay there. Around 5.30, it was really time to go to bed and prepare for the trip back...
This weekend was, as expected, one of the highlights of the year, and we're all really looking forward to the other upcoming events, such as the Rotterdam Marathon weekend and the Batavierenrace! In the meantime, enjoy yourself with the photos of this weekend!
